Are you passing through Prague and suddenly feel the urge to bowl? In the Czech Republic, and particularly in its capital, it’s quite possible to have fun throwing huge, overweight balls at pins located at more or less regulation distances.
Yes, not all establishments are the same. In fact, you can go from a perfectly legal venue that respects the game… To lanes whose size is far from regulation, and whose pins are held in place by strings.
Which are the best bowling alleys in Žižkov?
It can’t be stressed enough that Žižkov is probably the liveliest district in the Czech capital. Here you can do it all: darts, table soccer, bars, restaurants and, of course, bowling.
So we’re taking you to the Žižkov district, where we’ll take you on a tour of the best establishments in the area. And don’t forget to visit an exchange office to pick up some Czech currency!
The Bowbar
Located in Bořivojova, one of Žižkov’s main streets, the Bowbar is the bowling alley not to be missed if you happen to be in the area. On site, it’s simple: you’ll find everything. Slot machines, arcade games, billiards and, most improbably, four bowling lanes.
If the size of the latter is far from regulation, the pins held in place by strings will annoy you to no end. Indeed, it’s not uncommon for one of them to miss, preventing you from making a strike. But you’ll soon get the hang of it, and find yourself coming back to it once, maybe twice.
Price: Between 180 and 290czk per hour
Opening hours: between 3 p.m. and 01 a.m. Monday to Thursday, until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, closed on Sunday and Monday.
Victoria Bowling
Located below the Bowbar, Victoria Bowling seems to pay direct homage to the local soccer team, Viktoria Žižkov, who play in the Czech 2nd division.
This well-hidden spot is one of the only real bowling alleys in Žižkov. With its regulation-sized lanes, it’s a very popular venue. So don’t hesitate to book. Beware, however, of the Bowbar – Victoria transition, which may take you by surprise.
Price: Between 390 and 420czk
Opening hours: 4pm to 11pm daily, closed on Sundays.
Xbowling
Located a little further away than the bowling alleys above, Xbowling is another place where a visit is a good idea. At the very top of the Žižkov district, not far from Parukářka Park, the place is very friendly. There are several lanes on site, and no need to book if you get there at a reasonable hour (around 6-7pm). A rather pleasant place to go, to start your evening in the best possible way.
Price: Between 230 and 430czk per hour
Opening hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays, until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
