Temperatures in Prague vary depending on the season. In the winter it can be very cold (usually below 0 degrees) while in the summer it can be up to 30 degrees and even hotter.

The year can be divided into two parts, with the first one, from November to February, where the temperature (on average) is from 2 to 6 degrees, with a lot of snow and rain.

Between March and October, on the other hand, it is between 13 and 24 degrees, on average. So we can see that the temperatures in Prague are quite mild… In short, it’s a good place to live!

What is the weather like in Prague?

The weather in Prague seems capricious. However, don’t panic. Visiting the Czech capital can be done at any time of the year. However, there are two main periods during the year:

  • A rather mild weather in Prague between April and October and particularly pleasant between June and September
  • A more capricious weather in Prague between October and March, especially in January and February when rain and snow are mixed together

The seasons are quite classic. But what about sunshine and rainfall?

Sunshine in Prague

From October to March, there are up to 5 hours of sunshine per day. Between April and September, however, it can be sunny for up to 15 hours a day. This is also the time of year when our Czech friends go out and enjoy the typical restaurants of the capital!

Rainfall in Prague

Finally, concerning the rainfall, we notice once again that the period from October to April is not necessarily the most unpleasant, with 25mm of rain per month (but a lot of snow, especially at the bottom of the winter).

On the other hand, the months of June and July are rather conducive to bad weather, especially because of thunderstorms linked to the heat.

Good to know

The Czech capital is a great place to live. The weather and temperatures in Prague are quite pleasant all year round, although it is necessary to anticipate a heat peak in the middle of the summer and a cold peak in the winter.

When should you travel to the Czech Republic?

In practical terms, you can visit Prague at any time. Whether you are in the middle of summer or in the middle of winter, the Czech capital has a lot to offer, regardless of the vagaries of its weather and temperatures.

However, we recommend that you choose the period from May to June to take full advantage of the beautiful days, the period from July to August and September to enjoy the lively evenings in the heart of summer, and finally, the period from January to February if you are fond of snow and you are not particularly afraid of the cold, because yes, temperatures in Prague can drop well below 0°C!

On the other hand, in the middle of summer, temperatures in Prague can be very hot. If the average is estimated at 24, you should know that you can spend days at 30 degrees, if not more. So try to find the right balance to enjoy your stay. By the way, if you want to cool down, don’t hesitate to read our article on the best bars in Prague. The weather in Prague, in brief

Finally, the weather in Prague is sometimes capricious. Indeed, the temperature can be very mild and pleasant in summer (even a little hot, with maximum temperatures reaching 35 degrees. For your information, the historical heat record in the Czech Republic is 40.4 degrees). The sky is often clear, with few clouds, and precipitation is very rare.

On the other hand, from November to the end of February, precipitation is quite heavy and snow falls in abundance. The weather is rather unfavorable, with little sunshine and a lot of rain, both at night and during the day. The sky is often overcast, there is a lot of humidity and the minimum temperature can reach -10 degrees (or even worse at night), for a maximum of 4-5 degrees, in the positive, during the day.

In our opinion, you should leave France for Prague when the weather is good. The climate is perfect, precipitation is almost non-existent and the temperature is really good.
