The best of Swan Lake is not the performance in its entirety, but a selection of some of the ballet’s greatest passages, the ones that forged its worldwide reputation.

The ballet is an adaptation of a German legend first performed in 1895. It is said to have been created by the famous choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with music by the illustrious Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The “Best of Swan Lake” performance covers much of the original ballet. The show lasts just under 2 hours (80 minutes performance and 15 minutes intermission). The dancers and musicians choose the passages they wish to perform.

On-site flash photography and video are strictly forbidden. There’s no dress code either, although it’s highly recommended to come “well-dressed”. Avoid jeans and sneakers, as the location doesn’t really lend itself to them. In fact, you’ll be amazed by the beauty of the surroundings.

Hybernia Theatre, an exceptional venue

The Hybernia Theater (Divadlo Hybernia) is one of Prague’s oldest theaters. In fact, its construction dates back to before the founding of the New Town, during the reign of King Charles IV. Originally, the theater served as a monastery. It was destroyed and renovated in the 19th century. Its current appearance dates from this period.

In the early 20th century, Hybernia was used as an exhibition gallery, before being saved from destruction in 2006. It then became a theater. It’s a pleasant, modern venue that can welcome up to 1,000 visitors in 4 categories (A, B, C and VIP). There are also 2 excellent restaurants, 4 bars and a superb summer terrace.
