Are you visiting Tallinn? You are spending your vacations in the Baltic States and would like to go a little further, even if it means going to Finland? Fortunately for you, Estonia is only a few kilometers away from the Nordic countries.

HOW TO GET TO HELSINKI FROM TALLINN?

As explained above, Estonia and Finland are only a few dozen kilometers apart. So, to reach either Tallinn (from Helsinki) or Helsinki (from Tallinn), you have two choices:

  • By plane: you can take a direct flight. However, this can be quite expensive. Also, from an ecological point of view, other more affordable and less impacting solutions can be preferred;
  • The ferry: indeed, you can make the journey Helsinki – Tallinn in the day, or even a round trip!

There are three different companies that operate ferry trips from Tallinn to Helsinki and vice versa. They are :

  • Eckerö Line, a Finnish company;
  • Viking Line, another Finnish company;
  • Silja Line, an Estonian company.

To book your ticket, nothing could be easier. Indeed, you just have to go to the official website of each of these companies. You will then be able to find the best possible ticket at the best possible price.

WHERE DO THE FERRIES TO HELSINKI DEPART FROM?

Generally speaking, the ferries that leave from the port of Tallinn for Finland are located at Terminal A. Getting there is very easy. Public transport (streetcar in particular) will drop you off within a few minutes’ walk.

HOW LONG IS THE JOURNEY FROM TALLINN TO HELSINKI?

The journey from Tallinn to Helsinki takes about 2 hours, if not a little longer, depending on the company that operates the crossing. Of course, the weather can also play against you.

When the days are bad and the sea is a bit rough, the trip can be delayed by a few minutes. There are about 10 crossings per day, divided between the three different companies.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO TRAVEL BY FERRY FROM TALLINN TO HELSINKI

The price of a ferry trip between Tallinn and Helsinki varies greatly depending on the season. A round trip ticket, for example, can cost you 10 euros in low season.

In summer, prices can rise to 60 or even 80 euros. To get the best rates, we recommend that you book in advance, but also that you use the competition.

Favour early morning departures, which generally allow you to get the best prices. In addition to these prices, think about adding the expenses on the spot, related to lodging, food or souvenirs that you might take with you. In order not to be cheated, it is important to budget for everything!
